ADC-216 High Resolution PC Based Oscilloscope

Accuracy is not usually regarded as important for most oscilloscopes. You can make measurements within a few percent (most DSO's quote 3% to 5% DC accuracy) but for accurate measurements you have to reach for a multimeter. With precision oscilloscopes, accurate measurements are possible at full speed. The ADC-216 oscilloscope has 1% accuracy is equivalent in resolution to a 4.5 digit 'benchtop' meter.

Large memory buffer

The ADC-216 has a large 32,000 sample waveform buffer, therefore it is possible to capture the most complicated signals, then expand the areas of interest to show their finer detail.

High precision oscilloscope

In digital electronics a signal change of 1% is usually no problem, but in audio electronics 0.1% distortion or noise can be a disaster. Conventional DSO's only offer a 8 bit resolution, so can detect at best 0.4% signal changes. This means that they are unsuitable for many applications ranging from monitoring sensors and transducers to detecting noise and vibration. Precision oscilloscopes require more than 8 bit resolution.

High dynamic range

As well as resolution, noise is an issue. The amplifiers that make up the 'front end' of a conventional DSO are designed to have a high bandwidth. Low noise is not a priority and so 1% noise figures are typical. The designer of a 16 bit oscilloscope has a tough job, noise must be kept below 0.0015% (15 ppm), otherwise the extra resolution will be swallowed up by noise.

PicoScope Oscilloscope and Data Acquisition Software

PC oscilloscope software

The ADC-216 is supplied with PicoScope software that provides oscilloscope, spectrum analyzer and multimeter functions. PicoScope software makes full use of your PC's processing capabilities allowing you to view real-time signals, zoom in on your signal, and save and print captured waveforms. The familiar Windows graphical interface makes PicoScope intuitive to use and includes an autosetup function that will automatically set up the timebase, channels and trigger configuration to display any signals that PicoScope finds on the oscilloscope's inputs.

Also supplied is PicoLog data acquisition software that transforms your PC into a high-speed data logger.
